Bruckner stelt in zijn lezing een culturele diagnose van onze tijd. 'We hebben weerbaarheid nog nooit zo nodig gehad als nu. Europa bevindt zich aan de rand van desintegratie. Kijk naar de economische crisis en het populisme. Maar we moeten in geen geval toegeven aan paniek. Er zijn gidsen noch goden. Om crises met veerkracht tegemoet te treden zullen we onze weerbaarheid zelf vorm moeten geven.'

Deze lezing vormt de start van de jaarlijkse conferentie van de Europese Humanistische Federatie.
This year the annual conference of the European Humanist Federation (EHF) is on Humanism and Resilience. It will be organized and hosted by the Dutch Humanist Association (Humanistisch Verbond) and the Dutch Humanist Alliance. .

The conference will take place after the EHF General Assembly and an inspirational programme of visits for European Humanist Professionals (EHP). The conference will open with a keynote speech on Friday evening, 25 May, and close at lunchtime on Sunday 27 May. All the speeches will be held in English!
